Parents as Teachers is a free, voluntary program that serves Leesville families with children from prenatal to kindergarten entry. Our Parent Educator, Beth McKinney, will provide timely educational information of what to expect as your child grows and develops.
What Are the Benefits of Parents As Teachers?
Numerous independent evaluations have shown that Parents As Teachers can have a positive impact on families. Evaluation studies have found:
- PAT children have significantly enhanced language, problem solving and social development at age 3.
- Parents involved in the Parents As Teachers program are more confident in their parenting skills and knowledge, and read more to their child.
- Children's gains carry over to the early elementary grades, as evidenced by higher scores on standardized reading and math scores.
- Parents stay involved in their child's education, both at school and at home.
